CBSE Launches the Budding Authors Programme, with the Opportunity to have your Work Published | Frontlist

This is a two-part event, with the first stage taking place at the school level, followed by shortlisted pupils submitting their entries to the board.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has established a creative writing competition as part of the 'CBSE Reading Mission' to encourage students to experiment with storytelling. The 'CBSE Budding Authors Programme' is a two-part event, with the first stage taking place at the school level, followed by shortlisted students submitting their contributions to the board.

"The CBSE Budding Authors Programme aims to provide students with a platform to read various types of stories and learn to write effectively." Students who compose and submit short tales as part of this project will be able to express their creativity and have their work published, according to the board.

The tournament is divided into three stages, the first of which is for classes 5 to 6, with a word limit of 500-600. The next one is for grades 7 to 8, and entries should be between 600 and 900 words long. The third level is for classes 9–10, with a word limit of 1,000–1,500.

The first phase will take place at the school level between November 10 and 30. Students will compete in schools by writing short stories in either English or Hindi. The board provided feedback on how stories should be written in the notice.

Following the requirements, schools will analyse and nominate two candidates each category.
The second stage will run from December 1 to January 15. During this period, schools will register selected students on the CBSE Academic portal, and these students will receive their own login IDs and passwords to use while submitting their work.

From December 26 to January 15, the link for submitting stories will be open; students can develop, modify, and finally submit their works until January 15, 2024.

CBSE stated that all students who submit their created short stories during this phase would receive an online certificate of participation at their school's e-mail ID.

A panel of specialists will examine all contributions, and shortlisted entries in each category will receive editing assistance to finalise their creation.

CBSE will publish the best national entries as a compilation of short stories in each category, according to the board.
